Doodle #179

I'm writing this from a computer within the Library and Learning Commons in Monash. Yeap, that's right! I'm in uni on a Saturday. I guess that means it's finally time to flip the switch and turn on hardworking Kino mode. NAHHH.

I was supposed to get up and leave for uni after breakfast. Note the usage of words. Well, I glanced at the clock on the wall to see that it was only 9:30AM. If I left then, I'd be spending an ungodly amount of hours in uni toiling away at the set of notes I've been revising over the past week. So I did a slight mental calculation and decided to stay home awhile more, just a little bit.

MASS EFFECT 2!!

*looks over at clock* 10.30AM. Crap. Time to go.

Reached Monash right before 11, ah love the parking on weekends and headed over to Lib 3 to find Joshiee waiting for me. GAME ON.

Trying to cram 4 weeks of lecture into 1 day's worth of studying is definitely one of my more.. stretched ideas. Nevertheless, managed to finish my final set of notes and revised up to proteins. Only 3 sets of lectures to do! Which I shall get around to starting tomorrow..

But then why am I still in uni?

FREE STARBUCKS DURING EARTH HOUR. :D

Over the years, I have made it a point to celebrate Earth Hour, usually at home. Turning off all the lights and stuff, everything except my PC that is. Can't give that up sorry. :p This time round, I'll be at SMR, Sunway Monash Residence, for free coffee. :))

Doodle #178

I think I can bullshit a crapload of nonsense at times. Hah.

Had my third Communication tutorial session today. I guess this time round it was much better, having sat on the sidelines. The first task, once again, was to create a powerpoint presentation on the cases given to us during the briefing session. The main perk was being able to select which role play session your group was going to be in. Hah. That really piled on the pressure.

Worked like nuts to finish first. :p Just scrapped by, passing Weng by 5s to submit our slides first. Then he attacked me, again. =.=

On another note, everyone's been having a rough time. You can feel it in the air, it's just.. murky. :/ I know now how everyone felt back then, being a spectator as opposed to an actual player now. To watch the story unfold and not being in any position to help. I know this is very late, but I'm sorry, for all that I put you guys through.

Like the rising sun that shines, from the darkness comes a light.

Once again a post that lacks a proper structure. GOING SMR tomorrow! For free starbucks. :p

Doodle #177

Another week has gone by, just that like. This will be one of those quick catch up posts again.

Lately, the workload just feels like it's been piling up. Just had my first assessable quiz earlier this week for 2.5%. Didn't get full. :( Felt so blur when I took it. I have no idea why I attempted it at what..? 8am in the morning. I hadn't even kicked my brain into gear yet. I am fully aware of the necessity to capitalize on every possible attempt to score in this semester, to lay out the groundwork for my transfer application.

On the bright side, I'm about 85% done with my lab report, which will be due this coming Wednesday. I have to stop procrastinating, and start reading up on the finer details of the report. But I just seem to lose focus the moment I open up those files.. :/

Decided to join the music club this semester. Might as well try to pick up what meagre skills I once had again. Attended the AGM last night, but I bailed. :P Headed off to dinner with Aly and her friends from MUSA. Zaaaaaaaanmai. :D

DotA 2 sent me an invitation to play a few days back. Thanks Steam, but I'm not ready to give up what free time I have left just yet. Been preoccupied with ME3 lately, just finished the game earlier today. And I was like.. wtf. at the ending. WHICH MADE NO SENSE. =.=

Kinoc, out.

Fragmented thoughts, as reflected in sentence structures and phrasings.

Doodle #176 : Mingling

It's been almost a week hasn't it? A pretty hectic one too.

For starters, I have a lab report to finish writing up (by next weekend hopefully) as well as a reflective essay which is due this coming Tuesday. I hadn't expected Year 2 to really pile up so much pressure in such a short amount of time. I miss Year 1 and all those carefree moments now. Doesn't help that I really need to bank in on this semester to pull up my WAM which literally plummeted the previous sem. :/ All to secure one of those exchange slots, as a backup plan should I fail (I'm pretty sure I will) to get a privileged slot this coming semester. I really want to go over to Aussie in Sem 2, it's Winter! Innit? :/

Anyways, coming back to this.

After a.. month? of planning. Things were finally under, for Mingle-Mingle Night 2012. It's a Pharmacy exclusive-event aimed at bringing everyone, from Year 1 to 4 closer together, as a Pharmily. :P

Things did feel a bit rushed this time, as things didn't really go smoothly during the start. Venues were booked, last minute changes, budget cuts, etc. But that didn't faze us, or rather the organizers, Dave and Joshiee. Okay maybe it did a little. Anyhow, most of the people helping out with everything, food, sound, deco were from Year 2. Go Year 2! :D

Among the prep work was going out to buy paper cups and plates with Joshiee the day before the event. Damn, my arms hurt from lugging around 4 giant tongs of water. The food, was Domino's pizza, which we had to carry in from the main gate. Doesn't help that Building 6 was at the other end of campus. Right, the venue this time round was 6-3-02 and 6-3-03, which were 2 adjacent classrooms. The latter being the usual class for us Year 2s. Well, both the rooftop and foyer were booked for the day for other events, so we had to make do. :)

Classes ended at 4pm that day. LET THE PREP BEGIN!

The deco team blowing up the balloons for the game later on.

As well as working on the.. banner. :D Le awesome handwriting, from Adeline.

Logistics finally shifted out ALL the classroom tables and arranged the chairs. Damn, that was backbreaking work.

The food station readying up at 6-3-02.

Joshiee boy helping out with the balloons as well.

Tonight's menu. Yum.

The preparations were finished at roughly 5.40ish. Just in time for Mingle Night to begin. We did overshoot by roughly 10 minutes but least things were starting to move.

Jhii handling the registration booth.

More deco. :D

The ribbons used to randomize the groupings. There wasn't really much mingling between the different classes the year before so this was a new system. Which did not really work. :P People still chose their own colours. Ah well. I took blue. GO BLEUU. Didn't make a difference anyway, was stuck at the sound booth the entire day. Oh right, remember I said Year 2's were the team this year? I was in charge of sound, which meant I got to choose the soundtrack! WOOTS. Too bad Dave didn't let me play all my songs. Had to mainstream-ify the tracks. :(

Joshiee and Jeanie kickstarting the event. They were the emcees for the night.

AND SO IT BEGINS.

Welcome peeps! :D

The first event of the day was masterminded by none other than Master Dave himself! It was a game based on a Hong Kong gameshow which involved a person selecting a random number within a specific range of numbers. The groups would then have to send a representative to select a number within that range. If the number wasn't the one picked earlier, the range would be reduced. If it was.. POOF. Punishment for the whole group. Familiar?

First round was off, and Dave went "Kin Hoe will select the first number." I must admit, I did stone abit. Gahahaha. So yeah.

Your time starts now. JENGJENGJENG.

One of the punished groups :p

Ironic though, the first unlucky group was blue, and that was the colour of my band. The number chosen was 77, and yes you're welcomed. :D For some reason Adeline knew which number I picked so her team dodged a bullet when it came down to either 77 or 78.

The thing is, the second number was chosen by Jean, who had a pink band. And guess which team got chosen then? PINK. :D

You could feel the tension in the air as the game was underway. 'twas the suspense as the clock kept ticking and any number chosen could very well send the entire team into punishment mode. :P Hee.

Though.. there wasn't really much of a punishment in my opinion. The options were performing either "Airband, Doraemon dance, or the Ultraman Dance" The middle being the easiest, and the first and last being.. Well. They were both performed during last year's Pharmacy Night. And during both sessions, the performers from that night came up instead. Ah well. :D Main thing is everyone had fun. Heh.

Then it was dinner time. Everyone scrambled over to the next room to pick up their 3 slices of pizza. :D

Second game, coordinated by Joshiee, Dave and I. Something called King, Queen, Jack. Essentially, you had to pair up with someone and each word represented a different pose the team has to assume. Jack being a piggyback ride, Queen required one member to sweep the other off the feet. Literally. Like a bridal carry. And King is the easiest I suppose. One person became the "throne" and the other sat on him.

Had to do a demo with Dave so the rest of the people got it. Dam LOL moment.

Soo and Wygene. Le Queen position!

The Year 2 guys going for Jack.

No idea what they are doing but Jhii looks so cute here! :D

Dave overseeing the players. Le King. :D

After a few rounds.. ALL THE GUYS were knocked out. WTH. ): So it was a femme fetale showdown at the end. In the end there were 3 final pairs, 1 from Year 4, 1 from Year 3, and 1 from Year 1.

After another 10 rounds, we had to resort to Time Attack and Sudden Death to decide the winner.

Gahaha. :)

Le final game of the night.

Balloons anyone?

Sad to say I died within the first 2 minutes.. TWICE. -.- Dammit! My foot started to cramp real bad after that. Whole day spent in my ridiculously tight shoes. Maybe I should have gotten a size larger. Bah.

Le final round.

After that, the night was over. Joshiee wrapped up the event, and everyone started heading off. You were a really good emcee la bro, so proud of you.
:')

Le fellow year 2 students.

Pharmily. :)

BACK TO MY REPORT. I've procrastinated enough. Or... ME3! :D

Doodle #175 : Interpharmacy Badminton

So today, I decided to spend the day cheering for Monash's team in the Interpharmacy Badminton Competition organized by UCSI. There were participants from Monash, UCSI as well as SEGI, who took part in today's event. The venue was at UCSI itself, so I had to drive down to Cheras. Swung by LV first to pick up Devi and Cheng who didn't follow the rest as they left around 8. Which was way too early for a Sunday.

On a side note, I spilt McD coffee in my car, or rather, it leaked and seeped through the paper bag. My car still smells faintly of caffeine. Which is rather.. invigorating. On the bright side. :D

Begun the journey to UCSI then. I had no idea where it was before this (I thought it was near Giant Shah Alam), yes I have horrible geographical knowledge. A GPS search later and I found out it was in Cheras. To the KESAS! My home on the road. :D

Roughly 15 minutes later I found myself in Cheras. Having placed my trust in my GPS, I followed its instructions diligently. And it lead me into a back alley, through what seemed to be a parking lot. I looked up. I saw Giant. Dafuq? I couldn't turn around too as they were both 1 way streets. And the guy insisted that I pay RM1 to enter. WTF. GPS led me to an unofficial 'toll booth' BAHH. =.=

Nevertheless, UCSI was just beyond Giant.

We're here!

Le walking into UCSI to support team!

UCSI lobby!

Saw these and I was like "Dafuq?" Aye, anyone up for a.. shoulder massage of death? :D

So we found the hall, the MPH, pretty quick. And just in time too, the first match of each category just started.

The first Men's Doubles game going on. Lip Yong and James, Monash (far end) against UCSI (near end).

Ivan and Seasons, our second Men's Doubles team.

Everything's still pretty slow-paced now. I guess it's just the first round after all. Warm ups and stuff. Headed around to watch the other games in place.

Men's Double's 1st round 2nd game.

Men's Singles. Zid for Monash! Against some dude from SEGI, if I'm not mistaken.

Men's Singles, our second player, Eugene from Year 4. playing against.. SEGI? I think. :/

Time for the girls to showcase their skills.

Women's Doubles, Janice and Diyana from Year 1 (Monash) playing against.. UCSI.

Undoubtedly though, the best match of the day was this one.

The Men's Singles, UCSI against SEGI. Think it was the Semifinal match.

Warming up.

Le smash! I mean it was just epic. Initially there were crowds at all 3 games running concurrently. 5 minutes later.. Everyone shifted over to watch them play. Omg.

After like.. dunno how long, it was finally time for our second doubles team to shine.

Go Monash!

We were then given a short break for lunch. Seasons led the way. Then I remembered he used to be in UCSI. So yeah. Headed to this chicken rice shop somewhere down the road. Not bad la. Ordered Char Siew Fan and they gave me twice the regular portion you'd expect back at Sunway, for the same price. Dam full. D:

On the way back.. Passing the CC.

"Eh we got 5 people"
"5 people..? What team does that make?!.... Basketball team!"

LOL. Ivan.

Seasons then gave us a tour of USCI.

Le sign near entrance.

Their Pharmacy Lab. The size was okay la. Pretty big, about the same as what we have in Monash. They even have this practicing booth nearby, simulating an actual pharmacy. Real life dispensing exercise! Pretty cool.

Then we went to their cafe.

Which was AIR-CONDITIONED. Dafuq?

Spotted a familiar stand there.

Then there was this cool reload station. You can get anything from a reload card for your phone to even MOL POINTS for gaming! Cool shiz.

But it was time to get back, the finals were about to begin.

Men's Singles final match:

Eugene (Monash) against Yellow Shirt Pro Guy (USCI)

I gotta say, we Monashians really cheered. Everytime we scored a point, there was bottle clanking, banging and cheering. Most enthusiastic crowd. WOO. Then when we lost a point.. UCSI decided to cheer as well, :P

But in the end, UCSI took the match. Pretty close. 21-19, 21-18 if I'm not mistaken.

Soo leading the cheer. :D

Then the Men's Doubles final.

Seasons / Ivan vs the 2 UCSI lecturers.

Did not go well. Lol

Once all was said and done, the prizes were handed out. And we Monashians had a seperate ceremony at the side.

Soo giving out the certificates of participation.

We may not have won anything, but we sure as hell had fun. :D
