Think Back, And Make A Wish 1

Warning : You are about to real a LONG post. You have been warned.
EDIT : This post isn't THAT long since I've decided to divide this into parts.

Out with the old, in with the new.

It's not easy to start over. It doesn't mean just dropping everything you have now and setting out to rebuild from scratch. That's only a fraction of what's to be done. You have to break awayfrom all your previous connections, your old habits, change your whole way of life. Take a moment to just sit back and ponder upon what matters in your life. Think of all the little things and deliberate with your mind what really matters and who's worth staying in your memory.Erase the insignificant things and piece yourself together, bit by bit. That's what it means to start anew.
And everyone starts anew at least once every year. That, is what the new year's all about.

Fresh starts.

Turning over a new leaf.

But enough about that. It's time to begin the post.

This year has definitely been a memorable one for me filled with ups and downs. I stepped out of my comfort zone more times than I could ever remember and into uncharted territory. I've been put through new and daunting experiences, picked up a few things, learnt to see people in a whole new light as well as realize who are the people truly looking out for me and those justwaiting to pull me down.

Tired of listening to my cliche'd general overviews? Well it's time to dwell deeper then, into what 2010 meant to me.

1. COLLEGE

College life, a life I was only half-heartedly looking forward to. Of course, it isn't easy stepping into a whole new world alone. To enroll at Sunway University College wasn't entirely my decision, part of me had wanted to go to Taylor's. Well, almost all my friends are studying there now. I only had 3 friends then. Going into the first week, I was still uncertain of my choice. Everything changed when I met these guys.

I'm pretty sure I've said it a million times, but I reiterate. They are THE most awesome people I've had the chance to know.

The very first person to have struck me was this guy.

Premjeet "Niama" Singh, the guy who likes to take long walks on the beach. Peer into his hypnotic eyes. LOL. As far as first impressions go, my first thoughts on him are best left unsaid. :P But that was to change later on.

Taken during the early months of the year. The first time we were all truly exposed to the college workload and routine. It's a stark contrast to schooling where most of us would just go "Aiyaaa, it's only homework! No need care larhhh. I'll just put it off till tomorrow!" Oh but of course, do that in college. You. Are. SCREWED. Nevertheless, that didn't stop some of the people I know from slacking.

During that same assignment, I met these two people. Probably the first two people I befriended this year.

Marcus, he's the dude on the left.

At first glance, he came across as someone smart, reliable, organized and hardworking. 12 months later as I'm writing this, that impression hasn't changed.

Kah Mun!

My little sister. The person who I share my problems with and vice versa. Sweet and innocent, ever the caring friend.

I still remember that one time 3 of us discussed work distribution at the foyer. Good times. (:

Time and time again, we (AusMatians) were slopped with work way beyond our comprehension at the time. What on earth were we thinking to have taken up a 50% coursework course? On the other hand though, it was a refreshing way to approach studying. No more spoonfed knowledge, but group discussions and research. You literally bear the fruits of your efforts. Is that a line? Ah well.

This would be the example. EAL/D Forum, 2010. One of the most stressful times for us during the year, myself included. The stress was well reasoned for 20% of our total internal marks rode on our performance for this.

It was also during this time that I really got to know May Jing. One of the more petite fun girls in our group.

Of course, the work's a pain. But there's the brighter side to college life. The events.

AusMat Freshie Night 2010, on the 4th of February. The very first time changed beckoned and I showed a different side of myself. That slight changed wasn't missed by a few friends.

Of course, those events are exactly what you'd expect. Loud, awesome, packed?, loud, and awesome. True story. :D

Then again, not every every event revolves around concert and stuff. I attended two other events this year, G-Race and also 24Hour Famine, both of which was organized by the SSD, otherwise known as the Student Council.

I entered the G-Race with a couple of friends, Prem and Steven. Yeah, I know, what was I doing joining a race when I couldn't even run 100m without panting for air due to fatigue and exhaustion. Stop smirking at my horrid stamina, it's not my fault yes I know its mine I was always too lazy to exercise!

I'd never forget that time Steven pointed at the rocks and Prem started rolling on the ground. (:

The second event mentioned was a 24 hour camp at Sunway University College. As its name implies, we were to go through 24 solid hours of famine, a condition in which we were deprived of food and water. Well, we were allowed to drink water though, just no food. From 9am on a Saturday to 9am the following day.

Technically I skipped half a day on the first day since I had EAL/D replacement lectures. I didn't get to eat though, had someone monitoring me :O More on that someone later.

Both pictures were taken during Famine. I don't have any of the G-Race pictures with me.

Now, the real question is "Why did I bother joining those events being the lazy guy I am?"

Thanks to this girl. Who is she?

She is the person who convinced me to go on both events. Fellow AusMatian, Quadrapop Master and member of the overall Student Council, Itianne. She is without a doubt, the most hyper, cheerful and fun person among those in the group. One of the people I can never picture the year without. Everything would be so different without her. A lot more bland, and less whining of course, and less eating. :P

Thank you once again for hauling me along to both events, a real eye opener. (: Although I have so much more to thank you for. (:

You'll hardly ever see her without her other half.

Amanda. I would describe her as one of the more logical people among us. She can find you a reason for almost anything and doesn't really have a high tolerance for nonsense, or people who are a nuisance. First time I spoke to her, she went on and on about paintball. (:

Somewhere, sometime during the year, I got close to this person.

Dinding, wall, or just Cornelia. I can't seem to remember how we started speaking but somehow we just did. I've been through countless hours of studying with her in the library. Always the one who stays behind while the rest of us eats, she guards our stuff. Kinda like our belonging's personal bodyguard. On a lighter note, she's my iPhone victim :)

Then there's this dude.

No idea how I started talking crap with him. Alvin, otherwise known as the pervy uncle.

Kelz, one of my 3C/3D buddies. I still vaguely remember that day in Chemistry where she came in late.

I'm straying off track aren't I? Okay then, it's right back to the events! However, the following ones are unofficial events in our little AusMat group. (:

One of the most memorable of which,

Smack that arse. Lololol.

All the awesome badminton sessions with the group.

And the meals at A&W after badminton. So technically all we do is gain back what we lost. :O

Sometime during the end of the year, we had another outing. Marcus, Kah Mun, Itianne and I crashed Amanda's place. Getting lost more than once in the process of locating her place.

Engrossed with ps2.

Taming Amanda's dog.

I have nothing to say. (:

We just gamed and gamed, ate pizza for lunch, bought soya bean which was supposedly very famous yet tasted very plain while waiting for the girls to buy chips (which took awhile, a LONG while) while Amanda drove in circles cause the backlane where she dropped us off only could fit 1 car at a time, then watched Goofy Goobers! (lol long sentence)

Once again, thanks Amanda for letting us over.

This next one is probably THE highlight of the year. What would outings be if they weren't Snowflakes outings? :P I can't tell how many times all of us flocked over to SS15 just to have this mouth watering dessert. (:

The pictures say it all.

Back to people,

Ringleader of the girls in our group - think I've mentioned that before - One of her most memorable lines, in my opinion, begins with the words "Eh just now I was walking to class...." ;)

Jo Keat! Met him during one of the early January lab sessions. One of the hyper guys in the group, and my faithful lab partner :P

Of but of course, the staple of the things we do.

ooVoo sessions with the gang!

Another thing that sticks out for me is all the studying at the second floor of the library, and camwhoring sessions with this girl there.

Heh.

But hands down, the single most memorable event was this.

Look familiar?

Thank you so so much, Prem, Mun, Watson, Jing, Kelz, SuQi, Jo for it. :)

Though there was one who couldn't make it.

Before I forget...

CHINAGURL! The person who abandoned us for cooler friends.

All those times spent during these 10 months together. I wouldn't have had it any other way. All the lunches at Orange complaining how bad it was but still eating there. Eating ice cream together at Rock Cafe, the Amanda-Jo chase while the rest of us looked on. Yapping on about how pricey Pink is. Going to MySig, and lunchbox. (:

Studying, studying and more studying. But heck, you guys made it all worth it. (:

What better way to end this than graduation night, one filled with memorable moments for all of us. I seriously can't bear to rewrite it so you may look it up here. (:

Struggling together those 10 months. I wish all AusMatians the best for the upcoming results!

That concludes the first part of this post. Yes, this is just the FIRST.
