Twin Towers @ LIVE 2011

Note how this isn't a Doodle.

Concert. Free.

Yes, let me repeat that. FREE CONCERT! The only better combination of words in the English language than 'free' and 'food'. What better way to take it up a notch than to invite Hoobastank to come and perform at that very concert? But more on Hoobastank later.

I won't bore you with all the nonchalant details and skip right down to the good parts.

Details of the concert (As posted on JunkOnline)

Dates: 8th & 9th April 2011 (Friday & Saturday)

Venue: KLCC Park, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Day 2 (Saturday) - Joe Flizzow, Mizz Nina, Colby O’Donis, Earth Wind & Fire Experience featuring Al McKay

Time: 6pm onwards

ENTRANCE IS FREE

This post will be on Day 1's event. Obviously enough, today will be Day 2's concert, which I will not be attending. The line up says it all.

As stated in the details, the concert was scheduled to begin at 6pm. We (Samuel, Jon, HY, KX and I) left KK at 6.30pm. Figured we'd skip all the opening acts and random stuff. Besides, it's bound to start late. Malaysian time larh brotha. Reached our destination close to 8pm. KL's like a maze of winding roads and traffic jams.

When we finally exited the parking lot and breathed in fresh air, we couldn't really find our bearings. Usually, just listen to the background and you'd hear the noise from whichever concert you were attending. Oddly enough, it was non-existent. Turns out we were on the wrong side of KLCC and were walking in the wrong direction. Turned around and found the place.

Nevertheless, didn't miss anything.

Squished and squirmed our way through the dense crowd. I swear, you get the weirdest crowds during any free concerts. That aside, we placed ourselves somewhere on the left side of the crowd, right of the stage. Wouldn't say that the view was awesome nor that it was comfortable. But you get what you pay for. You can't really complain when you're at a free concert.

The view's not that bad larh.

The next 30 minutes was passed stoning and doing nothing as nothing but DJs and random dance acts took the stage. I think of them as fillers, only there to pass the time but never really meaning anything. There's the occasional good mix of music by the DJ and some nice dancing but.. Screw that, one particular instance ruined it for me. More on that later.

Blimps. What's with concerts and blimps? Though as Sam put it, it'd be cool to steal one for ourselves.

Also, there was a crowd of people in costumes near some restricted entry (VIP?) zone.

Managed to pull one aside for a photo. Before we could take more, the whole group marched off, who knows where.

Finally, around 9.00 or so, the first act in the line-up came on stage. Yuna. She was good. Like. Goooooooooooood. Think I'm a fan now. I don't remember any of the titles of the songs she sang but it was a mix of English and Malay songs. Really good though, that's all I remember.

Another break, and more DJing. DJ Double D. Double D. Meh.

An eternity later, The Azenders came on. Rejoice, for good music has came for our salvation! Forgot which song they opened with, then they followed up with "Ladies and Gentleman", having listened to their studio version, I think the live one was way better. WAY BETTER. The lead singer then mentioned after them, Bunkface was coming up.

A few Azender songs later, I realize how his voice really resembled the vocalist from Bunkface.

Got my answer later. Turns out he IS the singer from Bunkface. Makes sense, no?

When The Azenders went off, Bunkface came on a few minutes (a change of clothes and an additional pair of shades) later, they dished out several of their hits.

Only one I remembered was Revolusi. I was rather surprised that they didn't play Through My Window. I assumed it was their most popular (and the only one I knew) song.

KPop fans and Wondergirl fans, you can go wild now! Because what comes next is what you've all been waiting for. WONDERGIRLS performed!

But HAH! I didn't bother watching. Not a fan. Only songs I knew were Tell Me and Nobody.

After they were finished, I estimated that around 1/3 of the crowd just liquidated and vanished.

Not that I could care less, but it made room for us to move front to watch what really mattered. The final act of the day.

Before they came on though, they played random music again. And suddenly, Baby came on. Blasted loud and clear. I could hear an audible gasp of horror from the crowd. I was one of them. Buzzkilllllllllllllll.

ANYWAYS..

Hoobastank.

I should have brushed up on my Hoobastank songs beforehand. Only knew about half of the songs they performed last night. Boy, it was awesome. Didn't expect them to play that many songs though.

They performed songs from throughout their older albums, and even several new ones.

Born to Lead, If I Were You, Running Away, Remember Me, Inside of You.

So they said they never ever dedicated songs to anybody, but they did for us. (I question the validity of this, could be a crowd pleaser line. That's just my take though) Felt good still.

The Reason.

The crowd literally went nuts. :)

When it was time for their final song, the energy level hasn't dropped. The crowd was screaming for the one song they have yet to perform, yet everybody wanted.

They gave it to them.

Fireworks went off, music blasted. And the unmistakable opening riff from Crawling In The Dark played. The crowd cheered, they screamed, they jumped.

And the gates to the FanZone were opened.

Needless to say, the 5 of us scrambled in for a better view.

Let the moshing begin.

Sam almost lost his shoe moshing.

The night was good, for more reasons than one. :)
